These pages are for the caregivers -- providing support, help and relief and products for their use.

Caregivers are those wonderful people who devote part or all of their life to helping others live as peacefully and as comfortably as possible.

One of the major problems of being a caregiver ‘off-the-cuff’ is Where in the World do you Get Help, Find Services, even Know What’s Available !

Another one of the major problems with caregivers is the fact that they have little or no time to take care of themselves.  So, as a caregiver, not only will you find information to assist you with care responsibilities you’ve taken on, but also how and where to find support for what you’re trying to accomplish.  Check out the links below:

Caregives looking for assistance programs for their 'charge,' might want to look here:  BenefitsCheckUp.org.  Make sure you have birthdates, zipcodes, monthly incomes, current medical costs and any help they are currently receiving before accessing this site.  We found it very helpful.

Spring '06 Medicaid Now Provides Assisted Living benefits to Low-Income Seniors

Part of the Oho General Assembly's budget bill for 2006-2007, a new waiver now allows low-income seniors and disabled addults to receive assisted living care under the state's Medicaid program.

In the past, individuals requiring Medicaid assistance would often be forced into a nursing home if they required long term care.  With the new waiver in place, they now can look forward to the freedom and flexibility offered by an assisted living facility should the need for such care arise.

Openings for the assisted=living waiver is limited to 1,800 people statewide in the first year, but the program is expected to expand if successful.  Participants must meet several criteria, including:

- Must be current nursing facility residents or existing Medicaid waiver participants.
- Must be age 21 or over.
- Must need hands-on assistance with dressing, bathing, toileting, grooming, eating or mobility and have unpredictable needs for assistance with activities of daily living.
- Be able to pay room and board.
- May not have countable assets valued at more than $1,500.
- Monthly income must not exceed 300 percent of the Social Security insurance benefit.

The county departments of Job and Family Services determine the financial eligibility of interested patients.  In addition, patients may be required to pay a patient liabilty each month towar the cost of services.

Providers must be licensed by the Ohio Department of Health and must complete the assisted-living certification process.
